I Gotcha on a Thursday!

Don't be looking for my blog tomorrow, cause THIS IS IT!! lol I won't have time to write tomorrow- but I wanted to make sure to get this in, while I could! Here we go:

Favorite Picture:  Pin Up Girl Glam/ Rockabilly Style

Doing a Rockabilly/Pin Up Girl photo shoot is definitely on my Bucket List! I just love the this style! It's fun, flirty, and a little provocative.  Sure they have plenty of photos in this genre that are more "Boudoir"-- but my favorites are the ones that are "accidentally" sexy (not really, though, because they're pretty intentional lol).  The kind where they are kind of funny, but you "accidentally" see her underwear... I just think it's a little more subtle than a lot that we're dealing with today... (I mean, really Miley Cyrus???)  I like this era, because-- although it was racy for it's time-- it's still feminine & sexy.  Its a time that celebrates a woman's curves & femininity-- instead of  the time we live in now, where everyone wants to either be androgynous or making everything unisex.  I kind of like the idea of women & men being seen separate, but equals; yet praised & celebrated for their differences...

Favorite Debate:  Mylie Cyrus Vs. Sarah Baartman...

"... against her will, she has to mimic savagery and expose her body, first in carnivals, then in the aristocratic salons of Paris, later on among the libertines and finally in brothels where she ends up being a prostitute. In the meantime, French anatomists will have taken an interest in her unusual anatomy (enormous buttocks and labia) only to declare her the missing link from ape to man. In 1815, aged only 27, she dies alone, of a combination of pneumonia and venereal disease..."

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
-George Santayana, 1863–1953, philosopher

Ok, so a group of friends & I had a bit of a heated debate over an article, about whether or not Miley Cyrus' VMAs performance could be considered racists (Solidarity for Miley).  Overtly, no... I don't think young Miley ever considered that her performance could be seen as racially offensive in the least bit.  In fact, I believe that she loves Black culture... I believe that she is now trying to submerge herself in it, as well as make a profit off of it... and I believe, despite her admiration for what she thinks embodies our culture, she has caused some groups to compare the display to what Sarah Baartman had to go through, during slave times... Granted, the women who danced for Miley were fully willing to participate, however there were subtle signs of racial manipulation. There was a lot of ignorance up on the stage from pretty much everyone in that performance... I mean... all this from a girl who didn't even now who Jay-Z was a few years ago...  but I digress..

I've attached the link, if you actually want to read the article... and although I personally didn't agree 100% w/the article, and felt it was a bit reaching, I felt that a lot of valid points were made.  I enjoyed having the discussion w/ some of my friends-- and even though it seemed like most people were "staying out of it", and a lot of people who were "on my side of the debate" seemed to just be calling & texting me, instead of expressing themselves on Facebook-- I was proud to be able to stand up for what I believe, and still know that the people who participated still respect me & are still my friends.  It did bother me that no one (who commented) seemed to truly understand where I was coming from- especially given the historical accuracy in comparison, but at the same time, I kind of didn't expect them to, either.  But to each his own... and we all will always see the world through different eyes & world views, and that's the way it should be.  God  didn't make us all the same to experience all the same things in life... I'm just glad that at the end of the day, we know that our different opinions don't define us as a whole.

Favorite Laugh:  No, Grandma, NO!!

Favorite Music:  Latasha Lee & The Black Ties

I'm sooo excited about getting into Latasha Lee & The Black Ties!!!  I accidentally stumbled on to this group & absolutely love her music her Rockabilly Style & her unique twist on songs.  She is very comparable to Amy Winehouse... and as much as I love Amy, she's no longer with us. No one can ever replace Amy Winehouse, but I'm so happy to have found another singer who embodies the same type of sound & style.  It makes me laugh that people on her page were getting mad, because people were comparing her to Amy Winehouse-- but there's no doubt about it.  And if you're an Amy Fan, you're probably gonna be a Latasha Fan.  Her music seems to have more positive lyrical content, than Amy's-- We all know Amy Winehouse had substance abuse & relationship problems that she wrote about all the time... because Latasha didn't live Amy's life (musically) her content is a lot different-- but both are amazing.  Amy was definitely more raw than Latasha-- but Latasha brings it, too!  So excited!! So check it out & tell me what you think!

I decided to do my blog today, because tomorrow I will be starting long weekend with a friend I haven't seen in 7yrs! So to everyone out there in Cyberspace, have an awesome Labor Day Weekend!   fun-filled with a friend I haven't seen in

Back to School, Suckas!

This week has brought a lot of organization, on my part... There are a lot of upcoming plans, in my near future that I've needed to navigate.  In the midst of this, I have still found some time to pick out the different quirks! Soooo Here we go!

Favorite TV Show:  Basketball Wives Premiere!

The start of this season was pretty uneventful, however the overview of the entire season looks super promising!  I liked how this episode, beautifully narrated the horrific events that transpired between Chad & Evelyn, after the season wrapped last year.  I was surprised that Evelyn, received the amount of backlash she got, but it is typical of our fickle society we live in.  I do, however, hope that this is the last we'll hear of the Chad/Evelyn drama (which I doubt). I'm sure they'll stretch it out-- I just hope she involves herself in something else, besides that.  How do you truly heal on camera?

I'm pleased to see that fake-a$$ Jennifer Williams is off the show! Could not stand that heifer! And I am not really feeling Shaunie's new determination of "not giving a damn." I think that's what bothered me most, on this episode. She had 4 other seasons to show "the real Shaunie". We pretty much get an idea of who she is by now-- now you want to switch it up? She's calling it "uncensored"- but I don't think that's true to her real character. I think it comes off as fake, now, in season 5.  It just feels like she's looking to stir up drama for ratings (which I'm anxious to see)-- but it looks more like a "character" she's chosen to play, rather than showing her real personality. We'll see what happens...

Favorite Decor:  Back to School Caterpillar!

I saw this on Facebook & thought it was adorable! I'd love to do something more permanent like this for my kid's bedroom (should I ever be blessed with a kid, lol) nursery. This looks easy & fun! I could see this on any elementary classroom or library. These are the times I wish I had kids of my own!

Favorite Laugh:  Wizard of Oz Funny

This was too hilarious to pass up... I love these Memes! They're hilarious, and some of them truly make my day!

Favorite Social Issue:  Relationships

I know a few of my friends can agree with this!  It's just a sign of the "microwave society" we live in, now. No one wants to wait for anything to properly unfold, anymore. From popcorn to a relationship, it's all the same.  It's all about instant gratification & feeling good. Apparently "waiting" for anything is archaic.  What we've done is minimized the quality of our lives.  We're no longer getting to know each other deeply. Granted, there are other forms of "getting to know people" that seem to advance the process.  But still, it'd be nice if people actually "dated"... So many people want to go from sex to marriage, then they wonder why they're divorced in a year or less. I think I have a healthy dose of skepticism, but still find myself constantly sorting things in my head to make sure I'm comfortable w/the pace. Of course, it can also be challenged by the fact that you never really know who can screw you over. I was in love with a guy (who claimed to be in love w/me) for years, and he ended up destroying me immensely [for awhile]. You can give someone your all, and still end up doing a Waiting to Exhale- igniting flames to what used to be your relationship.

For the defense of fast moving relationships, the heartache isn't as bad as when you've really invested a lot in someone & they betray you, but the trust isn't really there, either. But that's probably the reason it happens, too. We're so free with everything, that for those of us who want long-term love, we forget that you have to step back and do it ol' skool (generally).  For some, it does happen instantaneously. I don't think it's as common as people think, though.  That's why I think words are so important. Even if things are moving fast, watch your words & guard your heart, until the time is right

Favorite Gripe/controversy:  Misleading Media

"...Many rappers are promoting it to involve young people in the manufacturing, selling, and usage of the drug. "
So, this article may have educated me more than the author realizes... For one, I gained more knowledge of the side effects & dangers of popping "Mollies"... AND I also was reminded about how sneaky & how damaging the media & publications can be... Had this author written "...Many Pop Icons; The Pop culture..." something all-inclusive, that means the same thing as what [I'm hoping] was the point they were trying to make, we wouldn't have an issue.  But by using the little unassuming word "rappers" the writer of this article immediately put a face & race to who the "bad guys" are.  When you read the word "rappers" what picture pops into your head? Is it MacLemore, Vanilla Ice, or maybe Eminem? NOPE... it's "Tupac", Lil' Wayne, T.I.,  "Snoop Dogg (Lion)", "Jay-Z... When you read that "rappers are promoting the use of mollies..." did Miley Cyrus pop in your head? I mean, there was HUGE controversy about the song she sings "We Can't Stop"", where she's clearly promoting drug use. Plenty of other pop sensations have glorified drug use, as well. It's not fair to just paint "Rappers", by themselves, with that brush.

I'm in no way advocating for rappers. There are very few who I actually respect their music/talent (especially in 2013)... What I am advocating for, is accurate reporting with less discrimination.  It disgusts me that the media can design a picture so vividly, yet most people won't even pay attention. It's so subliminal that most people don't realize how easily manipulated they are. It's a chain of events. We [as brown folk] may not literally be in chains, but we're still under many less obvious forms of slavery & discrimination.  You think I'm lying?  Go to your county jail and browse through the inmate pics.  Go to prisons... browse through the inmate pics. How many of them are minorities? Not that I'm saying that all of them are innocent... Clearly a lot are guilty as sin, but so are so many other races that get away with it or get off with a lesser charge... If this wasn't an epidemic, prison/jail cells would be more universally diverse. Instead, there are huge amounts of our population locked up & most of them are minorities. They target certain races, then throw them in prison. If they're allowed out of prison, they have a hard time leading a legitimate life, due to lack of opportunities... so guess what? They end up doing dirt again, maybe not to be malicious this time- maybe to survive... and the cycle repeats itself.  I say this, b/c the profiling is so subtle at times-- like with articles like this.  They're basically subconsciously telling everyone who to "watch out" for, who the "bad guy" is... this perpetuates the continued discord between races.   It's so sad to see.

OK- that was A LOT! so if you got through that, thanks for sticking by me! LOL I promise not to end on such a heavy note next week!  Don't forget to subscribe & tell me about your week!

Blog Break...

So, I am well aware that I didn't post last Friday. Things got really hectic at work (as they do every year during "Fundraiser Time") and I was just too exhausted to stay any longer to type a blog... Sorry ya'll... but I can't promise it won't happen again, lol. So for now, this is what we're going to discuss:

Favorite Movie:  We're The Millers

Before my brother went back to college, I took a day off to spend some time with him & hang out.  He & I are pretty close, so it was awesome to get some time w/him.  We'd been so busy, and the summer just flew by!  We were going to see The Heat (which I had already seen, and thought was hilarious!) but it was sold out, so we decided to see We're The Millers, instead.  So glad we saw it!  Ok, ok... if you get squeamish or offended easily about lots of "adult humor" and moderate cursing, this movie may not be for you... but if you can get past that, it's hilarious!  The humor itself is funny, but I think the thing that makes it pure comedy is that the humor is unexpected.  So many movies are predictable... or you kind of know what's gonna happen next, by the way things are set up... But this movie is different. It keeps you on your toes the whole time, alongside making you crack up!  The ending is not predictable, yet also didn't leave any cliffhangers.  Check this movie out, if you're in the mood for a good laugh!

Favorite Celebration:  My Satellite is fixed!!

Thank God for my Dad, who taught me how to "rig" things up, temporarily when my electronics are broken, lol.  There is another culturally used term that I will not use, since everyone who reads my blog won't really get the true meaning... but some of you know what phrase that his, ha ha... but Anyway- thanks to my McGyver skills, I was able to at least have temporary Satellite reception, while I waited the long week for the Satellite company to come out & fix me up.  Apparently, my wack-o neighbors severed my satellite pole when they were digging up their garden.  I'm so glad that God gave me the grace to endure it, because I really wanted to tell them off for not saying anything about it.  When the satellite guy came out, we pulled out the pole & I could tell my theory was right.  Don't act dumb, like you can't feel a spade or shovel cutting through a pole in the ground... *cutting my eyes at them w/my mouth twisted up* Neighbors!  But the guy came out... and recruited a few new customers (hopefully).  If that's the case, I get cash, and no one is hating on that!

Favorite Pet Peeve:  Procrastinators are infectious

One of my biggest pet peeves is mass procrastination... I'm not talking about the little things that only affect us, I'm talking about "because of you're poor planning a number of other people are inconvenienced or stressed out".  There's a bad energy of "panic" and "frantic behavior" that spread throughout an environment, when people do this.  Most things are easier to figure out, than they seem, if you just learn to quiet your mind, calm down & think it through!  Then, learn from your lesson.  Why is it that some people "wing" EVERYTHING they do?   You've had so long to prepare, but you wait until the last minute to get things together, fail to orchestrate a plan, then induce panic on everyone around you.  All that happens when people do this, is that any problem that arises is magnified.  Learn to plan better & you won't have these problems! Geesh!

Favorite Dance:  "Blurred Linesdance"

So, it's been awhile since I've been "in the clubs"... but I can say that I'm so excited to learn another Line Dance!  For so long, all people really had was The Electric Slide.  Then, slowly but surely, there were things like "The Macrena"--- who, by the way, EVERYONE complains about, but EVERYONE still has fun doing it, lol... Then there were explosions of other dances like The Booty Call, The Monorail, Cupid Shuffle, The Wobble... So many different dances that [kind of like the music] hit the scene fast! So, here's another to add to your repertoire... and since it's fairly new, you'll look like a Rock Star! Just make sure you practice, so you don't look like a Beginner :)

Favorite Guilty Pleasure:  Basketball Wives Season 2013

I love it when one guilty pleasure ends, it's not too long before another rears it's naughty head!  I'm super excited about the new season (premiering TONIGHT)! I spent a good portion of the weekend re-watching part of the 2011 Marathon showing on VH1 over the weekend, and discussing female behavior w/my boyfriend.

SIDENOTE:  Can I just say, that I LOVE that he watches that show, too? LOL  My kinda guy ;)

I saw the previews for the next season, and it seems to sizzle just as the past few have! I wanna know if anyone learns never to tell Suzie anything... Really? The girl can't keep a secret to save her life! If you want your business told, say something to Suzie! I also want to see what my girl, Tami Roman, and her crazy self is up to.  There's a new lady in the group, Tasha, who seems to stir up a lot of drama... Could this be "Meeka 2.0"??? Guess we'll have to see! Check out this SUPER Trailer!

Well There's tons more to talk about! But I have so much more to do today, before I leave! Don't forget the Basketball Wives Premiere Tonight at 8pm! I'm Sure you'll get updates in here from time to time... Those women are Cray....

Fast Blog

This is a short blog this week, because I have so much going on! I'm going to leave for the day soon- but I wanted to make sure to the blog in! Enjoy!!

Favorite Pics:  Interesting Portraits of People as they Once Were...

I thought this was beautiful art!  I love things that tell a story... I saw this meme on Facebook, and whoever thought of this clever idea really touched a lot of people's hearts.  The artistry in these photos are so well-done.  If you'd like to see more, follow the link to view the rest of the photos! Portraits of People As They Once Were...

Favorite Performance:  Boyz II Men at The Package Tour (Boyz II Men, 98 Degrees, New Kids on the Block)

I had an amazing time at The Package Tour! with New Kids on The Block, 98Degrees, and Boyz II Men!  Although the seating was a lot higher than I anticipated, it was still awesome to be there with my girls & dancing & singing in the nosebleed section! lol I was extremely impressed with Boyz II Men! They did not disappoint.  I knew the words to every song, and it was such a romantic vibe.  They really brought back my love for them & their talent.  New Kids & 98Degrees were good, too-- but it didn't seem like they were interested in rekindling our nostalgia. Trust me, my friends & I were happy about our decision NOT to dress up like the 90's, like some other folks who looked out of place, lol.

Favorite Quote:  Be Authentic

Something I can't stress enough... "Worth" is so much more than money & clout.  God gave each of us something special to offer this world-- and there's no need to pump up our image, especially if it's dishonest, misleading or inauthentic.  Real confidence comes with being comfortable & self-aware.  Know who you are. Know your flaws... Know your strengths. And be that!  No one says you have to be perfect. No one says it's wrong to work on yourself... Just know that it's much better being the person you actually are, instead of putting on a show for others.  In the end, if you really are that person, you won't have to call attention to it.

Let's Get Comfortable!

It's weeks like this that make me stop and remember to take in the little moments. "Nothing" much happened this week, but I do know that I've had a lot of laughs, a lot of enjoyment doing things I love to do. So, without further hesitation...

Favorite Movie:  Side Effects

I liked this movie a lot more than expected. This was another one of my Free Redbox deals, and I'm so happy I went with my instinct and rented it!  For one, the entire movie is full of suspense, mystery & intrigue.
There is an eerie feeling throughout the movie, that you can't pin-point, until about 3/4ths the way through. I won't spoil it for anyone who wants to see it, but the twists & turns make it an enjoyable movie to watch.  And of course, it has eye candy like Channing Tatum, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones & Rooney Mara.  I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars. Make sure you check it out!

Favorite Laugh:  Get In Shape Girl!

I love #TBT (Throw Back Thursdays) on Facebook!  This week, I featured the Get in Shape Girl exercise equipment that my sisters & I used to have... and how I used to fill my hand weights with Kool-Aid (instead of water...SMH), so I could drink Kool-Aid to refuel... Really, Tiff? Defeating the purpose since 1987, folks! lol

Favorite Pastime:  Vegging Out in front of a Harry Potter Marathon

So, I watched the entire marathon of Harry Potter (except for Harry Potter & the Deathly Hollows Pt. 2)... and I really enjoyed it.  It was the first time I had seen Harry Potter. I saw one, when they were all the rage, but you guys know that if anything is too hyped up, I don't like to check it out, until after all the hoopla has worn down.  I also enjoyed seeing the characters grow from kids to adults.  I'm still trying to see where I can pick up Deathly Hollows 2- I have to know how it ends! Nonetheless, it was a great thing to do on a lazy rainy weekend!

Favorite Food: Steak & Cheese Eggs

This week, I have been craving steak & cheese eggs... I don't even know... but two of my favorite things you CANNOT go wrong! :)

Favorite Music:  Amy Winehouse

So today, I got a little melancholy over my girl, Amy, like I do from time to time. I always think of what great music the world is missing out on, now that she's gone.  Ok, so she wasn't the best role model... but she was an amazing performer.  Her voice was so sultry, like a true jazz & blues singer in that familiar smokey hole-in-the-wall pub at the end of the road. Amy was like an old friend to me. Her music got me through some really hard times in my life.  There was something about her signature; the irony between choice of music & lyrics.  There were plenty of songs that you could sing along to that seemed kind of happy & upbeat, but when you learn the lyrics, you realize the song is anything but... But isn't life a lot like that at times?  Sometimes we have to put on a brave face, when our lives are falling apart.  I like this picture... sure, she's rolling a joint, lol.. but there's an endearing quality about this picture to me... She just seems like a typical around-the-way-type girl, although she was anything but... You know? Like, "Just on her phone, in the kitchen, rolling a joint...whatever", lol.  I guess my craving for Ms. Winehouse's talent was a trickle down effect from my next blog feature...

Favorite Pet Peeve:  Lack of Creativity in Music these days...

So what do these three albums have in common??? I'll tell you... They all feature the SAME song on the track list. "Human Nature" by Michael Jackson, 1983, "Right Here" by SWV 1992, "She Ain't You" by Chris Brown 2011...  Oh, none of them are named the same thing, none of them have the same lyrics, but the instrumental part is almost identical.  Each one has tweaked the musical arrangement just a little... but ultimately, it's the same song. Now, I love all 3 versions, but it just made me really yearn for artists like Amy Winehouse, who came up with purely original work.  No, not to say she hasn't sang a cover or two... But she had so much originality in her stuff, that it's obvious when something she's singing isn't her's-- and it's more welcomed & appreciated, because it seems like it's more of an homage to the original artists... Amy sings tons of things by Donny Hathaway... but it's obvious it's just because she likes the music... Something about what people do now cheapens it.  It's almost like they're trying to pass it off as their own.  In a time where the music industry has cranked out gimmick artist after gimmick artist, it makes me yearn for REAL music.  Amy Winehouse only had 3 albums total (with her last one "Lioness" being released after her death), Lauryn Hill only has 2, and Donny Hathaway has 3 plus one with Roberta Flack... It makes you wonder about these artists that have a new album out every week.  The greats have only had a handful, and their stuff stays in my rotation.

(DISCLAIMIER:  Michael Jackson is listed here as the "original"- not the knock off, lol)

Favorite Excitement:  Boyz II Men, NKOTB, 98 Degrees Concert!

I'm so excited to be able to attend the Boyz II Men, New Kids on the Block & 98Degrees concert tomorrow!  Judy Dale, Destiny & I will be reliving some of our favorite childhood & adolescent moments!  There's nothing like a bit of nostalgia!  Boyz II Men broke my heart when they stopped releasing music.  They were the epitome of cool, growing up!  They were so cool, that there is not one person who watched Full House on TGIF, that doesn't remember the slammin' performance Stephanie Tanner did to Motown Philly!  And New Kids on the Block... I used to be in love with Jordan Knight... Looking back, I have no idea why, especially since seeing him on reality tv, and realizing he is a total douche bag, as an adult... and everyone knows 98 degrees didn't get the hype they deserve.  They were truly talented, but because they weren't as "trendy"& young or blonde as N'Sync and Backstreet Boys, they seemed to have been somewhat overlooked. I'm not ashamed to say it, but their Christmas CD is pretty much the only one I listen to, lol. More than anything, I'll be happy to spend another special, memory-making night with my girls! Love them!

I hope you enjoy your weekend!  Let me know what you're doing! I'd love to see what's up with you!
