End of December, Already??

December has really flown by fast, right?  I can't believe that it's almost the end of the year already!  I think a vampire ran off with my December! As you can tell, this week will be filled with Twilight references-- since finally finishing the entire book series.  So to kick off this week's Blog, here are a few of my favorite discoveries! :

Favorite Song:  Let Me Sign (by Robert Pattinson)

I love this song, because it has so many textures in it... It was my favorite song from Twilight. Recently learning that it's actually Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) singing it, is a BONUS tidbit!   It's playing in the background when Edward sucks the blood from Bella after James bites her... You can hear he's an English artist b/c of his dialect-- reminiscent of the late great Amy Winehouse; Then you have the parts that almost sound like a Native American chant. It's so raw & gritty.  There's passion behind the notes. The words are lyrical accessories, just as they should be.

I don't think Robert Pattinson has the best voice in the world... I've had to listen to a few songs on the low, b/c he loves to scream a lot (ha ha)... And he gets a LOT of notes off... but What I can appreciate about his music, is that he's not a perfectionist.  He clearly plays b/c it's something he enjoys. I think that's a beautiful thing.

Favorite ConfusionHow Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart look so different than Edward Cullen & Bella Swan...

Ok, so photo one is definitely photo-touched but I still don't get it...Robert Pattinson is so much more attractive when he looks like Edward Cullen... Even when he's just himself, but is cleaned way up. I have a few good pics of him-- but he & Kristen must really need a team to turn then from Meth-head Chic to the Beautiful People they play in Twilight.  It's like they almost purposely keep themselves hideous on a day to day basis.  Robert always looks greasy & shaggy & Kristen always looks like she's on Speed or Crystal Meth. I just don't get it... I mean, although I prefer that the pair of them have the gold or brown eyes from Twilight, I can accept that their natural shade is blue.  But can we at least get a fresh shampoo & Blow dry before you hit the Red Carpets? Please?

Favorite Photo:  Marilyn Monroe

I have a bit of an affinity for Old Hollywood Glamour Girls.  Audrey Hepburn, Brigette Bardot, Betty Paige, Olivia D'havilland, Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe... I love them all!  I love that in their era, it was part of good grooming & practice to be a "lady".  There was great effort put into how a woman carries herself.  There was an emphasis on sex appeal, yes... but it wasn't overly trashy- at least not by today's standards.  I wish I could've been a part of those days.  As "oppressed" as women thought they were then, I think we're more oppressed now.  We're not routinely shown our wealth by the way people treat us, anymore. It's more of a "free-for-all"... Hmph. Food for thought...

Favorite Book:  Bond Girl By Erin Duffy

Before starting the read for MabooKlub (my Facebook Bookclub, that is taking off to astounding start)- I started Bond Girl!  Already, I can tell I'm going to love this book.  I haven't matched  a face to the main character (Alex), yet-- but I know as more of her personality comes out, I'll be able to assess who should Play "Alex", should this ever be made into a movie.  So, I'm excited who will play my dark haired, green-eyed tom-boy turned beauty.  I'll let you know, when I've finished.

Favorite Look:   The Alika Circle Dress by Bettie Paige

You all know me... I love vintage style that can be updated.  I love this Alika dress from Bettie Paige for a holiday party!  She looks classically beautiful in this festive red dress with the form-fitting bodice with bow.  I love the fishnet detail in the shoulders.  It shows a little bit of skin without being too revealing.  I would imagine this would flatter any body type!  I love the nod to 1940's fashion!

Favorite Laugh:  Job Duties

Favorite Truth:  Single does not always equal available...

I've found myself more times that I thought, being single, but not really available.  I'm a different breed than a lot of folks.  If I'm in between relationships, I actually give myself time to heal after a break up, rather than jumping from one man to the next, etc... It's kind of sad how quickly folks jump in & out of people's lives, these days.  I'd rather have a handful of meaningful relationships, than a whole laundry list of disappointments... Just saying.

Favorite Holiday Touch: Book-mas Tree!

I thought this was so creative!  I can't imagine how long it too to find the exact right size book to pull this off.  I'd love to see this in a library somewhere!  I'm especially fond of it, because of my love for reading!

Well, Happy Holidays to all of you!  I hope you'll find peace and love over the holidays & throughout the year!

Merry Christmas! & Happy Holidays!

This Week's Favorites!

Welcome to another new and exciting week!  This week has flown by extremely fast.  I think in 2013, my mission will be to have more weeks like this.  It was jammed packed with lots of laughs, new experiences, and quality time with family & friends.  Here's what happened!

Favorite Video:

Ok, what can I say about this video that doesn't speak for itself??? This was probably the best laugh I've had all week!  I couldn't believe these elderly angels really sang this many popular hip-hop songs.  At the end of the day, these folks showed a great sense of humor for this odd task.  I just love the effort they put into it.

Favorite Look:  Zooey Dechanel's Blue Coat!

One thing I have in common with one of my favorite celebrities (Lauren Conrad) is bows!  I fell in love with this coat Zooey Dechanel wore in Tuesday night's episode of New Girl.  I could barely concentrate on this silly little song she was singing because I was so infatuated with this coat.  I also loved how the stylist paired the bright blue with muted neutrals.  I was on a mission to find this coat. It's Kate Spade of NYC $418 at Neiman Marcus! Not that I can afford it, but I still  Love Love Love!!

Favorite Shock of the week:  Shemar Moore & Sweet Brown on Watch What Happens Live

I've always known Shemar Moore to be a flirt from what I've seen of him during interviews over the years... Never in my life did I ever expect to see him making out with Sweet Brown on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live!  I about crapped my pants.  She was in hea-ven!!  I mean, who wouldn't be??? But I guess Sweet Brown can really live up to the swag everyone thinks she has if Shemar Moore is making out with her.  I'm a little jealous, but I'm not hating, girl! Do you thang, Sweet Brown! Everybody got time for that!

Favorite Experience:  Going to see Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Ballet

I have only seen a ballet once before, as a child on a class field trip, when the community Muse Machine did a special production for elementary school kids.  I've always been curious as to how I'd like the ballet as an adult.  This week, I finally got the opportunity to see Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Ballet with my family!! It was absolutely lovely! It was like stepping right into a fairytale or storybook. I was also pleased to see a very culturally & diverse group of people... Young, old, black, white, rich, not-so-rich & everything in between. As far as the actual performance, what impressed me the most was the details.  The costumes were exquisite!  The props and stage set up were magnificent.  I was truly in awe about how much skill it takes to dance en pointe, and how much grace and ease in which the dancers performed.  It also made me a little melancholy. I always wanted to do ballet as a child, but my parents said they couldn't afford to do it.  That's one thing I vow to myself. If I'm ever blessed to have a daughter, and she wants to dance, she will dance.

Favorite Techy Obsessionthe NEW Kindle Paperwhite coming out December 20, 2012

I'm both estatic and pissed about the new Kindle Paperwhite coming soon.  Let me just say, I am not one who buys a lot of "devices".  Some folks tend to splurge religiously on new technology, and I just don't get into it.  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." Is usually my motto. This explains why I have a Blackberry with a rollerball still, and still own a VHS/DVD combo player.  So, when it came to finally getting down and getting an eReader, I did extensive research.   On top of not being someone who splurges on the "latest" technology, I'm also not a  person who splurges on myself much, either.  So even though it was only a $100 purchase, I wanted to make sure I was getting something I truly wanted.  I didn't need all the bells and whistles.  I feel like people get so fascinated (or bamboozled, whichever you prefer...) with the fact that a product has all these features-- but in reality, what about every other device that does the same thing? Why do I need 3G internet access on my Kindle, when I have a cell phone & Laptop that already do the same thing?  I can't imagine me being soooo desperate to get a book, that I can't just go to the end of my street & connect to the nearest satellite.  But I digress....

So, that being said, when I finally made my decision to get a Kindle, I got the Kindle Touch.  I am in love with this little gadget, but I was a little bummed that the only one they offered in backlighting was the Kindle Fire, and I wasn't going to go for that.  So, I conceded to buy my new Kindle & be happy with whatever detached light source I had available.  I said all this to say... with someone who puts that much thought into a simple splurge, it was a little disheartening that they come out with the exact version I would've bought a few months ago, had it been available.  So, I'm doing what has rarely been done in my history of technological buying, and am upgrading as soon as something comes out.  I feel liberated, somewhat... but at the same time a little pissed, lol.  This will, in no way change how I am about technology, but it's nice to know I have the option when it suits me.

Well, this is the end of another week of good times!  Tune in next week for more fascinating finds! Don't forget to suscribe!

Friday Favorites Early

Hello Friends!  So, I'm posting this early this week, because I'm taking a MUCH NEEDED break from work on Friday.  Don't worry- I try not to forget about you folks :)  I hope you all are enjoying my blogs as much as I enjoy writing them.  This week's favorites are:

Favorite Childhood Memory:  Pine Cone Air Fresheners

As my childhood friend, Emily Ferris Kemp, reminded me of a cherished childhood moment this week... She said that she always thinks about how my sisters & I would spray pine cones w/my mother's perfume (Liz Claiborne) and try to sell them around the neighborhood.  We were calling them Air Fresheners... We would drench those suckers in my mom's perfume that she would never wear & tie a string to them, lol.  The small ones were $.50 the large ones were $1.00.  Surprisingly, we did turn a little profit off of our au naturale air freshener.  We told people they could put them in underwear drawers or hang them up.  Some of them we painted w/my nail polish.  What an awesome & creative childhood memory.

Favorite Rivalry:  The fight for who will play Christian Grey: Matt Bomer vs. Ian Somerhalder

Matt Bomer on the left, Ian Somerhalder on the right... My choice is Matt Bomer.  Yes, either would be an excellent choice, but the fact of the matter is, Matt embodies more of the characteristics (in my opinion) than Ian.  They both have those sensual grey eyes, but I think Matt's are more aligned to the persona we read about in the book.  In my opinion, Ian is more of a frat boy.  He too, embodies some of Christian Grey's characteristics, but at the end of the day, I think he can only do "fun Christian" and "hell-raiser Christian"... I'm not sure he could master the sensitive & vulnerable side.  So for that alone, my vote goes to

Matthew Bomer

Favorite Funny of the week:  Work Rules
I certainly have found this to be true in the past... Every place of employment has had them at some point... workers overly obsessed with their 'position' that they're tyrants when it comes to the humaness of the employees.  They forget that for some people work really is just a job... a means to survive independently; a way to pay bills... work is NOT everyone's life, contrary to what some think.  I feel sorry for those people.

Favorite Must-See Show:  Catfish on MTV

This week, the joke was on Jasmine, as she realized the guy she was talking to for two years was really a girl who was trying to get revenge, because a feud between them and an errant baby daddy.  SMH.  It's a shame.  Part of me want to slap Jasmine for being so vulnerable.  At the end of the day, how do you give 2yrs of your life to a man who's voice you've only heard twice, who lives 15 MINUTES from you?  You can't see something is catfishy about that??? Gawd! But I do feel for her on some level. Its sucks to be bamboozled on national television.

Favorite Pet Peeve:  Men who try too hard to look sexy w/their mouths open...

And this isn't even the worst example... but it's the best I could do... Believe me, I scoured the internet trying to look for exactly what I mean, and this is as close as I got... Seriously, though- You know the look... the "I don't wanna smile, but I wanna look sexy, not mad" pose that so many men do.  It's not sexy!!For men, they've got to learn that their sexiness comes from their eyes.  Their sexiness comes from the chisel of his jawline... not from dropping the jawline, looking like you're about to lose your gum, or slobber all over yourself.  There's something seriously disturbing when a man tries to "be sexy".  It's not sexy. Please stop it....stop it now!

Favorite Quote: By W.E.B. Dubois

I hope this is thought provoking to those of you who have children... I can't stand those who think it's ok to be hyprocrites as parents.  The "Do as I say, not as I do" approach does NOT work all the time. It's not a pass to disregard your own advice.  Yes, always push kids further & to be the best them they can be... but at the end of the day, if you're not practicing what you preach, it will land on deaf ears.  And in today's society, that can be a hefty price to pay.

Favorite Video of the Week:  Maroon 5 "Sweetest Goodbye"

I love Adam Levine... Another one of my alter-ego crushes, lol.  This week, I've been feeling this song. I started to listen to the words, which held true for how I've felt about parts of my past... but what catches me is the sexy lilt he does with his voice & the instruments at certain parts of the song.  Male or female, when I hear a sexy lilt, it automatically catches my attention.

Favorite Look:  Forearm Tattoos

I mean, come on...What better model than David Beckham? Seriously... I don't particularly care for this MUCH tattoos on forearms, but it's David Beckham, lol.  I was thinking about that this week, while waiting for my food.  I am not the type that "likes 'bad boys' "... Most of the times, those types end up letting you down in more ways than one.  I prefer the "nice guy" with an edge.  He needs to have a backbone, and a few bad boy ways, but he doesn't have to ultimately be a "bad boy".  No one wants a pansy.  So, I find 'family men' w/'bad boy' tattoos very appealing :)

Favorite Crush of the Week:  Trey Songz

Notice... the forearm tattoos... lol.  Ultimately, Trey is really just eye candy for me.  Well, all these men are, actually, lol.  But, there's something about a man who can sing that does it for me. I also am bit of a sucker for the "pretty boy" with tattoos.  I don't want them too pretty though-- I want them sexy enough to stand out, but also rugged enough to carry that edge of swag.  Trey Songz has that.

This concludes this week's Favorites! Tune in next week! Tell me, what are you obsessing about this week?    I'd loved to know!  And if you're a reader, check out our book club called, MabooKlub on!  Have a great rest of the week!
